Dental emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. At ClearWave Dental & Aesthetics on Royal Palm Blvd, we hold room in our schedule for same-day emergency appointments so patients across Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Margate, Coral Springs, and Tamarac can be seen fast when a tooth is broken, knocked out, or in severe pain. Call us right away at (954) 345-5200.
Same-Day Care When a Dental Emergency Strikes
If you are in significant pain, have bleeding that won’t stop, facial swelling, or a tooth that has been knocked out or fractured, treat it as an emergency and call us immediately. Prompt care is often the difference between saving and losing a tooth — and we reserve time every day for urgent cases. When in doubt, call and we’ll help you decide whether to come in right away.
Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
- Severe toothache — often signals infection; we relieve it and, when needed, perform a root canal.
- Knocked-out tooth — keep it moist in milk and call immediately; re-emergency visitation is most successful within the first hour.
- Cracked or broken tooth — restored with bonding or a crown.
- Lost filling or crown — we replace fillings and re-cement crowns fast.
- Abscess or swelling — we treat the infection and address gum disease.
- Severe wisdom-tooth pain — may need extraction or oral surgery.
What to Do Before You Reach Us
For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse, and store it in milk until you arrive. For a cracked tooth, rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress to limit swelling. Over-the-counter pain relief and a cold compress can help on the way to our office. Don’t place aspirin directly on the gum, and never ignore facial swelling — call us right away.
When Is It a Dental Emergency? A Quick Triage Guide
Not every dental problem needs same-day treatment. Use this guide to judge how fast to act, and call (954) 345-5200 if you are unsure.
Call us right away for:
- Severe, constant pain that over-the-counter medication will not control
- A permanent tooth that has been knocked out
- A fracture that exposes the nerve or causes intense pain
- Bleeding that continues more than 15 minutes after steady pressure
- Facial swelling, particularly near the eye or jaw
- An abscess with fever or swelling
- A suspected jaw injury
- Deep cuts to the lips, tongue, or cheeks
A same-day or next-day visit is usually enough for:
- A chip or crack that is not painful
- A lost filling or crown that is uncomfortable but not severe
- A mild to moderate toothache that responds to pain relief
- Food trapped between teeth that flossing will not remove
- A loose orthodontic wire causing irritation
- Broken dentures or a broken partial
A regular appointment is fine for: sensitivity without pain, minor cosmetic chips, and the check-up you have been putting off.
When to Go to the Emergency Room Instead
A hospital emergency room is the right choice when a dental problem turns into a medical one. Go to the ER, or call 911, if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling spreading toward your eye or down your neck, a fever alongside facial swelling, bleeding you cannot control, or a suspected broken jaw. Those signs can mean an infection is spreading and needs medical care first.
For everything else, a dental office is the better place to start. Most emergency rooms are not equipped to treat the tooth itself, so they typically provide antibiotics and pain relief and send you to a dentist afterwards. Calling us first usually saves you a step.
What to Expect During Your Emergency Visit
Your visit begins with a focused exam: what hurts, when it started, and what makes it worse. We use digital X-rays to see infection or damage below the surface. Getting you out of pain comes first, and laughing gas or oral sedation is available if you are anxious or need longer treatment.
Treatment depends on the problem. Infections may call for drainage, antibiotics, or a root canal. Broken teeth are rebuilt with bonding, a filling, or a crown. A tooth that cannot be saved is removed as gently as possible, and we walk through replacement options such as an implant or a bridge once you have healed. Whenever the schedule allows, we finish treatment in the same visit.
